In consistent to the pace of new technology, people in this day tends to move faster and most of them do not prefer taking things slowly anymore. Things seem to have become much more temporary than it used to be. We search online, go through the articles in the media so fast that sometimes what we perceived had faded away as fast too. When traveling, we take many photos and share it online or mention the moment on Facebook’s status in hope for someone to like and comment. Deep down, each of us wants attention.

However, there is one thing, It’s a warmth you cannot get from electronics, no matter how nice the Instagram picture or Line messages are. It’s a physical feel of something you’re able to hold in your hand after pulling out of your mailbox.

A friend of mine whenever I travel with her she will ask me to help her choose a postcard to write and send to her close friends. Through my eyes, I see this person as both attractive and attentive. Postcards are one of several mediums form of communication that people this day seem to forget about. Unlike what most people think, sending postcards is a fun journey. From a selecting postcard, writing to sending, you will get a sense of how alluring it is. And that feelings you get is incomparable to what you rely on today; mobile messages.

Rather than receiving a mobile message that easily fades away when a new message comes up, I feel overwhelmed every time I receive a postcard from someone,” said my friend, Palita Teeramasvanich.

Although the postcard will cost you money and time, the feeling you get once the people receive it is priceless. In this day, you may not easily find a postcard shop elsewhere because of its declining demand.  However, you can still come across them if you look hard enough. In a tourist attraction, for instance, the price for a postcard may throw you off at first glance. Don’t just strike out your idea right away but just think of the face of the person you’re sending it to; a huge grin across his/her face. Selecting the best postcard out of a handful of photos is also a fun process. Sometimes, you may find yourself buying an excessive amount of postcards or getting sidetracked by postcard shops right after purchasing.

My peer, Mina Intanate, told me an idea that I’ve never thought of before. In addition to sending a postcard to your friends, it’s also valuable to send it back home to yourself. Yes! Yourself. Time is free but once you have lost it you can never get it back, like moments. So what if the present you write to the future you to remind you of the past precious moments you had. Could say “Hi Myself, I really love this city and hope to make a visit here again someday, work hard, be patient and save money!”. It’s kind of weird but what you jotted down will be worth your time when you read it later on.
